Jastan Logistics prime movers queuing at an East African one-stop border post

Cross-Border Logistics Across East Africa

Transit cargo moved between Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Zambia and Botswana — with the bonds, entries and border relationships already in place before your truck arrives.

Cross-border movement in East Africa is rarely lost on the road. It is lost at the border: a missing certificate of origin, an unmatched bond, a declaration filed against the wrong tariff line, a driver who does not know which window to join. Every one of those costs a day, and days compound.

Jastan Logistics moves transit cargo through Malaba, Busia, Namanga, Isebania and Gatuna as routine work. Our documentation is prepared before loading, our drivers know the posts, and our operations team tracks dwell time so a stuck truck gets attention within hours rather than at the end of the week.

The corridors we run

The Northern Corridor carries cargo from Mombasa through Nairobi and Nakuru to Malaba and Busia for Uganda, then onward to Rwanda through Gatuna and Kagitumba. The Central Corridor runs from Dar es Salaam into Tanzania, with Namanga, Holili and Isebania linking Kenyan and Tanzanian traffic. For Southern African cargo we run long-haul into Zambia and Botswana on planned schedules.

Because we own the trucks, cargo does not change hands at a border. The same operator is accountable from collection to final delivery.

Documentation, bonds and compliance

We prepare transit declarations, arrange regional customs bonds, and handle certificates of origin under EAC, COMESA and SADC arrangements where they apply. Where cargo requires escort, sealing or a specific route, that is built into the plan and the quotation rather than discovered later.

Regulatory practice changes. Our team tracks it because we cross these posts every week, not because we read a circular.

Where delays really come from

In our experience the largest recoverable delays are documentation errors made days before the truck moves, mismatched cargo descriptions between the invoice and the declaration, and cargo arriving at a post outside its working pattern. All three are planning problems, and all three are fixable — which is the argument for planning the crossing at quotation stage.

FAQ

Cross-Border Logistics — common questions

Which border posts does Jastan Logistics use?

We routinely move cargo through Malaba and Busia (Kenya–Uganda), Namanga, Holili and Isebania (Kenya–Tanzania), and Gatuna and Kagitumba (Uganda–Rwanda), with long-haul routes continuing into Zambia and Botswana.

How long does a cross-border delivery take?

It depends on the corridor and the cargo. As a working guide, Nairobi to Kampala is typically two to three days, and Nairobi to Kigali three to five, assuming clean documentation and normal border conditions. We give a route-specific estimate at quotation and update it if conditions change.

Do you arrange customs bonds for transit cargo?

Yes. Regional customs bonds, transit declarations and certificates of origin are arranged by our team as part of the movement rather than left to the client.

Is transit cargo insured?

Goods in transit are covered through licensed underwriters. Certificates can be issued on request, and declared-value cover can be arranged for high-value consignments.
